Positioning Traps That Quietly Kill Value
Some of the strongest companies struggle not because of their product, but because of how they are positioned.
Some of the strongest companies I've met weren't struggling because of their product, their team, or even their funding. They were struggling because of how they were positioned.
It's easy to fall into traps:
- Talking endlessly about features, instead of outcomes. - Using generic claims that any competitor could make. - Trying to speak to everyone, which means you don't truly resonate with anyone. - Sending mixed signals across different channels, leaving buyers and investors unsure what to believe.
These aren't surface issues. They're value killers. When you sound like everyone else, customers hesitate. When your story is fragmented, investors lose conviction. When your positioning doesn't carry weight, your valuation doesn't either.
The irony is that these traps are avoidable. By stepping back and reframing how a business is positioned, and by building a brand narrative that runs consistently through every touchpoint, you unlock not just clarity - but confidence. Confidence from customers that they're making the right choice. Confidence from investors that they're backing a company destined to scale.
At The Tomorrow Partnership, this is the work we do - helping companies escape those quiet killers, so that their positioning and narrative become multipliers of value rather than limits on it.
